The Taliban have ordered this Tuesday the closure of all beauty salons in Afghanistan, according to a statement circulated by the Ministry for the Prevention of Vice and the Propagation of Virtue, amid the increase in restrictions imposed by the group on the population. .

The statement, picked up by the Afghan television channel Tolo TV, stresses that the measure derives from a “verbal order” from the Taliban leader, Mullah Hebatulá Ajunzada, and affects these centers in the capital, Kabul, and the rest of afghan provinces.

The measure is part of a battery of restrictions on the rights of the population, especially women, imposed by the Taliban since their return to power after the seizure of Kabul in August 2021, shortly after the then president fled the country. , Ashraf Ghani.

The international community has been highly critical of these measures, which include a ban on women working for international organizations and non-governmental organizations, as well as the closure of girls’ classrooms in secondary and higher education courses.
