The Taliban leadership prohibits movement officials from participating in public contract auctions

The leadership of the fundamentalist Afghan Taliban movement announced this Saturday that it is strictly prohibiting its officials from taking part in the auction of public contracts to clear up any hint of corrupt practices.

The announcement was made by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice of the fundamentalist movement, Barkatulá Rasuli, who argued the need for the decree “for the sake of institutional transparency.”

Corruption in Afghanistan is an endemic phenomenon and one of the main problems of the overthrown Afghan government, expelled from power by the Taliban in 2021. The fundamentalist movement has promised to end this type of practices to gain the trust of the population and the return of foreign investment from allies such as Russia or China.
