The Taliban kill the person responsible for the attack on the airport in Kabul (Afghanistan) in 2021

26 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Taliban have killed the leader and person responsible for the attack on the airport in Kabul (Afghanistan) in 2021, a member of the Islamic State affiliate in Afghanistan, and which resulted in some 180 deaths, including thirteen US soldiers, as reported US officials.

Although the US authorities, who have not released his name, had known of his death for weeks, it “took a while” for them to confirm it.

“Government experts are fully confident that this individual is primarily responsible,” a senior US official told CBS News.

The same officer has assured that it is an independent operation of the Taliban, in which the US has not participated or cooperated, and that the confirmation of his death has been intelligence work on the region.

The announcement of the death of this leader of the Islamic State has come after the president of the United States, Joe Biden, announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections, although the administration itself has assured that it is a “coincidence” and that in no case is it part of the electoral campaign.

That attack occurred on August 31, 2021 during the evacuation operation of foreign citizens and Afghan civilians after the arrival of the Taliban days before in Kabul, where they entered without opposition from the Afghan security forces. The authorship was claimed by ISKP, an affiliate of the Islamic State in Afghanistan.

After the attack, a US drone attacked a position where the ISKP leader was supposedly hiding, although the Pentagon later confirmed that ten civilians were killed, including seven children.
