The Afghan Taliban have announced the death this morning of eight suspected members of the Islamic State jihadist organization linked to the recent wave of attacks in the west of the capital, Kabul.
The jihadists have died in an operation carried out in the eighth police district of the city, as confirmed by the Taliban spokesman and deputy information minister, Zabiulá Muyahid.
Mujahid has linked the dead to recent attacks on the Wazir Akbar Khan mosque or the Kaaj educational center and other areas, which cost the lives of dozens of civilians, many of them members of the Shia and Hazara minorities.
Particularly bloody was the attack on the center, which occurred at the end of last month and which, according to UN estimates, resulted in at least 35 deaths and 82 deaths, most of them students.
“Two Islamic State members were arrested in western Kabul yesterday (Friday), and then an Islamic State hideout was discovered and raided at PD8 in Kabul city,” according to the spokesperson’s statement.
“As a result, six members of the organization died and grenades, explosive materials and a vehicle were seized,” according to a statement collected by the Tolo News chain.
