A spokesman for the authorities set up by the Taliban has again asked the UN this Friday to revoke the mandate of the current head of the Afghan mission to the United Nations, Nasir Ahmad Faiq, and to recognize the person designated by the Islamic Emirate, Suhail Shahi.
“The seat in the United Nations is a right of the Afghans, who should be represented in this international organization,” said the Taliban spokesman Zabihulá Mujahid, assuring that it is an “insult” to the Afghan people, as reported by the news portal Tolo.
The Taliban, who imposed the Islamic Emirate after taking control of the country in mid-August after the flight of then-president Ashraf Ghani, appointed the spokesman for their diplomatic mission in Qatar, Suhail Shahi, as their representative to the UN, and They have demanded that it be recognized as such.
The UN General Assembly decided in early December to continue recognizing Ahmad Faiq, who replaced Ghulam Mohamad Isaczai at the head of the legation. However, it was not specified under which authority — the emirate or the former Afghan government — he remains in office.
