The Swedish Police authorize a protest in which the burning of the Koran is expected

June 28 () –

The Swedish Police have authorized the holding of a demonstration in which its organizers have announced that they will burn copies of the Koran, a practice that is usually met with criticism from Turkey, which still maintains its veto on the Swedish incorporation into NATO.

The protest has been called in the vicinity of a Stockholm mosque this Wednesday afternoon, according to the SVT chain. Although the official permit does not appear as a promoter, one of the main promoters of the concentration is the far-right politician Rasmus Paludan, who has already participated in similar initiatives.

The authorization is the first granted after a Swedish court rejected the police order to prohibit the burning of the Koran in demonstrations, as a result of one of these books burning in January next to the Turkish Embassy in Sweden. The police approval does not authorize the burning as such, but it is assumed that it is a demonstration about the Koran.

The Turkish government has charged against this type of mobilization and has accused the Swedish authorities of not doing enough to prevent them. It also reproaches the Nordic country for its supposed lukewarmness when it comes to pursuing Kurdish terrorism, within a battery of reproaches that for now keeps the process of integrating Sweden into the Atlantic Alliance at a standstill.
