The public appearance of Ana Obregón has once again fueled the public debate on surrogates. From the exploitation of the women who gestate the babies and then deliver them, through contracts and money, to the impunity of the agencies that manage to offer these services outside our borders, going through those that appeal to cases where, supposedly, only altruism mediates. . The truth is that in Spain neither the law nor the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court leave room for doubt: surrogates are illegal, although that does not prevent more than 2,500 babies born abroad by this method from being registered for a decade. And the judges have specifically criticized famous people for advertising these types of techniques.
