The Sun emits a strong flare of the most intense kind

Oct. 24 () –

The Sun emitted a strong flare this October 24, which reached its peak at 03:57 UTC, and has been classified as X3.3.

Class X denotes the most intense flareswhile the number provides more information about its strength. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), which constantly observes the Sun, captured an image of the event.

In it you can see a bright flash on the left side. The image shows a subset of extreme ultraviolet light that highlights the extremely hot material in the flares, and which is colored in bluish green, NASA reports.

Solar flares are powerful explosions of energy. Solar flares and eruptions can affect radio communications, electrical power grids, navigation signals and pose risks to spacecraft and astronauts.

Our star records these months the most active time of the present eleven-year solar cycle.
