Blinken and Faisal bin Farhan talk by phone to receive the parties in Jeddah

May 5. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Sudanese Army has reported this Friday that it will send a delegation to Jeddah for the mediation process promoted by Saudi Arabia and the United States with the aim of ending hostilities between the Sudanese forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). .

“As part of the Saudi-American initiative launched after the start of the crisis, a delegation of the Sudanese Armed Forces left for Jeddah this afternoon,” the Sudanese Army said in a short statement on its official Facebook profile.

For the moment, the RSF, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, alias ‘Hemedti’, have not confirmed that they will attend this possible round of negotiations in Jeddah, which was discussed this Friday by telephone between the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan.

In this sense, during the call, both Blinken and Bin Farhan have agreed on the importance of stopping the military escalation between the parties and putting an end to the violence, so they have agreed to receive representatives of the two parties in Jeddah, has collected SPA news agency.

The hostilities broke out on April 15 in the context of an increase in tensions around the integration of the RSF into the Armed Forces, a key part of an agreement signed in December to form a new civilian government and reactivate the transition open after the overthrow of Al Bashir, damaged by the October 2021 coup, in which Al Burhan overthrew the prime minister of unity, Abdallah Hamdok.
