The Sudanese Army and the Sudanese paramilitaries have confirmed in the last hours that they will send delegations to Jeddah for the mediation process promoted by Saudi Arabia and the United States with the aim of ending the hostilities between the Sudanese forces and the Rapid Support Forces. (RSF).

“As part of the Saudi-American initiative launched after the start of the crisis, a delegation of the Sudanese Armed Forces left for Jeddah this afternoon,” the Sudanese Army said in a short statement on its official Facebook profile.

This Saturday, the paramilitary leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo alias ‘Hemedti’ confirmed the representation of his group in these talks, finalized this Friday by telephone between the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and the Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan.

“We welcome the Saudi-American statement on the start of talks between the Sudanese parties. We adhere to our firm and declared position on the need to achieve a civilian transitional government in Sudan that establishes a democratic transition,” he said. ‘Hemedti’s’ office in a statement collected by Al Hadath.

In the same note, the paramilitary leadership declares itself “anxious” for the Jeddah talks to be “the beginning of the end of the crisis” and hopes that the negotiations revolve “around reaching a ceasefire agreement, with follow-up of international observers.

In this sense, during their call, both Blinken and Bin Farhan have agreed on the importance of stopping the military escalation between the parties and putting an end to the violence, in such a way that they have agreed to receive representatives of the two parties in Jeddah, has collected SPA news agency.

The hostilities broke out on April 15 in the context of an increase in tensions around the integration of the RSF into the Armed Forces, a key part of an agreement signed in December to form a new civilian government and reactivate the transition open after the overthrow of Al Bashir, damaged by the October 2021 coup, in which Al Burhan overthrew the prime minister of unity, Abdallah Hamdok.
