The Sudan Ministry of Defense calls for the rearmament of its retired soldiers as a protection measure

May 26. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Sudan’s Defense Ministry has ordered all its retired soldiers to rearm as a means of protection for themselves and their families, according to a statement published on Friday.

In the note, collected by the Al Hadath chain, the Sudanese Ministry indicates that, despite the ongoing negotiations between the Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have contributed to reducing tension, especially in the capital, Khartoum, “urban violence knows no deadlines” and warns retired soldiers and their families that they could be victims of “rebel forces” in reference to the paramilitaries.

In the same statement, the Ministry of Defense accuses the RSF of attacks against international embassies and United Nations centers in Khartoum.

Riyadh and Washington reiterated their commitment to the Sudanese people on Tuesday, demanding that both sides “fulfill their commitments” under the temporary humanitarian ceasefire that began on Monday, extremely precarious to the point that the army and paramilitaries blamed each other for the Wednesday to break the provisional cessation of hostilities.
