July 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The health of Emperor Emeritus Akihito, 88, has improved on Tuesday after Japan’s longest-serving monarch was admitted after suffering heart failure.
The Imperial House has thus reported that he is hospitalized and receiving treatment, although he is out of danger. The father of Emperor Naruhito would have suffered a failure due to a problem in one of the coronary valves, which was detected during a series of check-ups carried out on Sunday at the Tokyo University Hospital.
Thus, the doctors have restricted all his activities although they have indicated that he will be able to continue with his life “as he has done until now”, according to information from the Kiodo news agency.
The emperor abdicated in April 2019, becoming the first Japanese monarch to step down from the Chrysanthemum Throne in almost 200 years since Emperor Kokaku did so in 1817.
Born on December 23, 1933, Akihito is the eldest son and fifth child of Hirohito, on whose behalf he fought and lost Japan during World War II, and Empress Nagako. During his childhood, he witnessed the tumultuous years of a militaristic Japan under his father’s leadership and his ignominious defeat. Akihito left the throne due to his advanced age and his health.
