The Spanish paid more than 3,400 million for registration and circulation tax in 2021

Public coffers collected 34,148 million euros from car taxes in 2021, 16% more

The Spanish paid 3,429 million euros for registration and circulation taxes throughout the past year, 2.6% more than in 2020 when more than 3,300 million euros were collected, according to the 2021 Annual Report of the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac).

Specifically, public revenue from registration tax shot up 25.5% in 2021 when compared to the previous year, since the collection amounted to 467.9 million euros compared to the 372.9 million entered in 2020.

Revenue from circulation tax, for its part, fell slightly (-0.3%) last year, from the 2,969 million euros that were collected in 2020 to the 2,961 million last year.

Likewise, according to the Anfac report collected by Europa Press, public administrations entered 3,839 million euros in value added tax (VAT) for the purchase of new vehicles, 7.5% more, which means that altogether , 4,257 million euros have been raised in the purchase of new cars, 9.7% more.

For its part, the public coffers collected 520.6 million euros for the transfer of used vehicles (property transfer tax, VAT and registration tax), which implies an increase of 1.5% in the year-on-year comparison.

FUEL TAXES RISE BY 20%

In addition, Spanish drivers paid 20,467 million euros for taxes associated with fuel, 20.5% more, of which 7,287 million were for VAT, 33.1% more, and 13,179 million euros for tax special, 14.6% more.

On the other hand, the registration fee generated income for public bodies of 114.9 million euros, 4.1% more, while the collection for the driving license amounted to 80.8 million euros, 27 .7% more, and another 187.6 million for change of ownership, 11.4% more.

Finally, the Spanish paid 1,062 million euros in taxes associated with insurance, 25% more, while income from maintenance, vehicle repair and trade in spare parts and spare parts (VAT) amounted to 4,494 million euros, 14 .8% more.

As a whole, the total collection for fees and taxes related to the automobile in Spain stood at the end of last year at 34,148 million euros, a 15.9% increase compared to the 29,453 million euros of 2020, although still below the 36,327 million euros recorded in the last year before the pandemic.
