The Spanish League beats the Premier League… on the virtual court

With the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning from Microsoft Azure, soccer fans receive information from competing clubs through 21 metrics. To do this, they have 16 high-resolution fixed cameras to keep track of players, referees and the ball.

La Liga’s digital strategy began in 2013, in 2020 they reached 100 million followers and three years later they doubled.

Currently, La Liga has profiles on 16 platforms, including Twitter, Line, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook; in which he communicates in 20 languages ​​with his followers around the world (Spanish, English, French, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Hinglish, Turkish and Russian, among others).

The first international platform that La Liga reached was the Chinese social network Weibo, in 2015; It was also the first soccer competition to broadcast its games via Facebook in India, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal.

La Liga was also the first to open a Twitch profile, as well as the first European league to launch a program on TikTok: Play LaLiga.

During the last season, La Liga reached 40.8 million followers to reach 200 million, surpassing leagues such as the English Premier League (192.1 million followers), and leaving the German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A and the Ligue 1 from France with 38.4, 28.6 and 31.5 million followers, respectively.

La Liga highlights the attraction of young people on social networks, particularly on TikTok, one of the profiles that has grown the most in recent years.

The League has also launched the Impulse Plan to support the digital growth of the clubs, which has caused a growth rate of followers multiplied by nine in the past season.
