The South African Justice annuls the decision that excluded former president Jacob Zuma from the elections

April 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The South African Justice has annulled this Tuesday a decision of the country's Electoral Commission that excluded the former president of South Africa Jacob Zuma, sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt in the framework of a corruption investigation, from the general elections called for next May 29.

The electoral court's ruling represents a victory for Zuma, since he had appealed to the Court alleging that the body lacks jurisdiction to decide who can be on the list of candidates, as reported by the news portal News24.

The political formation Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation), which takes its name from the dissolved paramilitary wing of the governmental African National Congress (ANC), founded by Nelson Mandela, has been gaining support in recent weeks against the government party.

Zuma, who resigned in 2018 besieged by a battery of scandals and was later convicted of contempt, has harshly criticized his successor, Cyril Ramaphosa, accusing him of not tackling the crises the country is going through, especially the energy crisis.
