Sep. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Somali Army has killed the head of the terrorist group Al Shabaab in the Mubarak region, known as ‘Carab’, and has freed a group of hostages held by the Islamists.
The attack occurred late on Friday and, according to Al Shabaab, has claimed the lives of 10 people and injured 20 others, reports the Somali news portal Garowe Online.
The attack has been supported by aerial means and has also resulted in injuries to another leader of the jihadist group, Osman Daud and Aw Maay, according to an official government statement released this Saturday that speaks of a dozen “terrorists” injured.
The operation has been carried out by an elite military unit deployed to Mubarak, some 95 kilometers southwest of the capital, Mogadishu.
Neighbors of Mubarak have assured in statements to the Turkish news agency Anatolia that several civilians have died as a result of an air attack.
