April 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Somali Army has killed a “prominent” commander and fifty members of the terrorist group Al Shabaab, related to Al Qaeda, during an air attack in the central region of Medug within the framework of the jihadist organization's Somali operations.
Somalis, in collaboration with international partners such as the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), have carried out a bombing raid near the town of Haratiri, the Somali news agency SONNA reported.
The neutralized commander has been identified as Ahmed Jais, who posed a “threat” to the people of Somalia due to his plans to carry out terrorist attacks.
The Armed Forces of Somalia have been immersed for months in a “total war” campaign against the jihadist organization, which has retreated to its strongholds in the south-central and southern parts of the country, although the number of attacks against the Somali authorities has also increased both in the capital, Mogadishu, as in other areas.
Al Shabaab continues to be one of the most dangerous armed groups on the African continent, as demonstrated by last weekend's attack on the headquarters of the NISA, an organization with enormous influence in the country and almost considered untouchable.
