Qualcomm has shown several new features recently, where we have been able to see for example the next generation of high-performance smartphone processors, as well as its advances in artificial intelligence. However, given the great push that Windows on ARM is having, no wonder Qualcomm wanted to push there as well.
That is why we find a new CPU architecture called Oryon, which comes to replace the Kryo cores that populated all Qualcomm processors on the market to date. The name of the new laptop platform that these Oryion CPUs will use is not yet known, but everything seems to indicate that it is the next iteration of the Snapdragon 8cx platform, which, if they follow the same naming model as up to now, would end up being called Snapdragon 8cx. Gen 4.
It is to be hoped that, the new Oryon cores have a higher performance than we found in the Kryo cores of the current generation of these processors.
In the same way as in the case of smartphones, the 8cx Gen 3 presented last year have their own NPU and Qualcomm has taken the opportunity to emphasize the improvements they provide in certain situations that occur when using a laptop. This are gaze correction in video calls, AI noise suppression, or automatic framingthings that are much more expensive in performance when doing it with CPUs and GPUs.
