The Government of Serbia has suspended this Thursday the issuance of new weapons licenses for two years and has agreed to stricter inspections for their owners after a shooting perpetrated by a student in a Belgrade school, which has resulted in at least nine deaths. .

The Ministry of the Interior has specified in a statement, after a meeting of the Serbian cabinet, that inspections of weapons will be carried out in the next three months to verify if their operation meets the correct regulations, as reported by the Beta news agency. .

Police chief Veselin Milic explained that the suspect in the shooting, a 13-year-old minor, called the authorities to notify them of the massacre at the Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School in the Vracar neighborhood, around 8:40 a.m. (local time). .

The minor had been planning it for a month and even made a list of who his targets would be. Upon reaching the center, he first shot at a security guard, who lost his life, and later attacked numerous colleagues. At least eight of them lost their lives.

The Government confirmed the day before that the suspect often went with his father to a shooting range, but in his environment he had not raised suspicions. According to his classmates, he had gone to a birthday party the day before, where he had behaved with apparent normality.
