The United Nations Security Council issued a new resolution this Thursday in which it urges Israel to eliminate all obstacles to be able to deliver as soon as possible and in the best possible way the humanitarian aid needed in the devastated Gaza Strip, six months after the attacks began.
Likewise, they have urged both parties to respect the safety and work of workers from humanitarian organizations, echoing the attack by the Israeli Army that killed seven workers from the NGO World Central Kitchen (WCK) last week. when they were leaving to unload food.
The Security Council has put the number of humanitarian workers who have died as a result of the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip at 224, highlighting that this is more than triple the number of deaths in just one year in other conflicts.
In that sense, they have stressed the need for those responsible to be held accountable for these events and for Israel to carry out a complete, transparent and exhaustive investigation into what happened to the WCK collaborators.
Members of the Security Council have highlighted “the extraordinary and admirable efforts” of all humanitarian workers, doctors and United Nations staff serving in Gaza, while recognizing the “extremely difficult and dangerous conditions” in which they operate.
DEMAND THE END OF THE BLOCKADES ON HUMANITARIAN AID
In turn, the Security Council has highlighted the “catastrophic” humanitarian situation suffered by the inhabitants of the Palestinian enclave, as well as the “threat of imminent famine”, calling on Israel to “immediately” lift all barriers to delivery of humanitarian aid.
While they have noted that Israel will open the Erez border crossing and allow the use of the port of Ashdod for these deliveries, they have emphasized that “more must be done” to bring the necessary assistance due to the “magnitude of the needs” in the Gaza Strip.
Finally, they have demanded that International Law and Human Rights be respected, the delivery of humanitarian aid without restrictions, that an immediate ceasefire be agreed upon and that all the hostages be released.
