The closing of the first season of ’30 coins’ almost two years ago left us wanting more and with an important question on the table. Will the Álex de la Iglesia series have a second season? That question expired at the beginning of 2022 when HBO confirmed that the most praised production of the Spanish director would have a sequel.
After that announcement, which came accompanied by a mysterious first teaser, the streaming platform has released the official trailer of the expected production. And, how could it be otherwise, he has not come alone either. HBO confirms that ’30 Coins’ will premiere in October of this year, with the possibility of having been present at Sitges 2023.
A second season with more references to horror movies
In the first season of ’30 coins’, Father Vergara settles as a priest in a small town in Spain to rebuild your life and stay away from the enemies that had tormented his life. But calm begins to fade when one of the 30 silver coins for which Judas betrayed Jesus Christ appears on the scene.
Paranormal phenomena, with a diabolic tinge and fueled by monstrous characters, sow terror in Pedraza. Due to this situation, which seems to get out of control as time goes by, the priest, the local veterinarian and the mayor form a group to discover the origin of the evils that have become a worrying threat.
The trailer for the second season shows us the town of Pedraza in a state of madness, with a large part of its inhabitants locked up in a psychiatric. Elena, the veterinarian, is in a coma in a hospital and Paco, the mayor, tries to take care of her while he is haunted by remorse for everything that has happened, and not knowing what is to come.
The threat is still latent and, as if that were not enough, a new and terrifying enemy appears. The synopsis of this new season asks us: “What about Father Vergara? Has he died, along with his archenemy, Cardinal Santoro? Where are the tortured souls hiding? We have to wait until October to find out how this story will continue.
’30 coins’, which has been shot in Spain, Italy, the United States, France and the United Kingdom, will be available on HBO Max. In the cast we find Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Megan Montaner and Eduard Fernández, Macarena Gómez, Pepón Nieto and Cosimo Fusco. And, as we have known for a long time, Najwa Nimri and Paul Giamatti will join.
