Sánchez, on the renewal of the Judiciary: “We are very close to the agreement”

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has affirmed that the agreement with the Popular Party on the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) “is very close” and that the intention is to close it soon in a meeting between him and the leader of the opposition , Alberto Núñez Feijoo. “We have never been as close to an agreement as we are right now”, he stressed in an informal conversation with journalists.

The Chief Executive has not wanted to go into the details of the negotiations or when it can become a reality, but considers that the fact that it is taking time to achieve it has even facilitated it.

He has admitted that what is being negotiated are the criteria for electing the members of the governing body of the judges, and he has referred to this in the face of Podemos’s claim that Victoria Rosell be included after currently being part of the Government as delegate of the Executive against gender violence.

It has hinted that this appointment will not go ahead precisely because of the criteria that are being agreed to appoint the members of the body pending renewal. Among these criteria, he has recognized that something related to the fact that the members of the CGPJ have not held political positions and also some issues related to the Attorney General’s Office will be included. The forecast is that it will be Sánchez and Feijóo directly who close an agreement that he has not wanted to give more information for discretion and to safeguard the final stretch of the negotiations.

Rufián: “It is good news to democratize the Criminal Code and make it more comparable to Europe”

The ERC spokesman, Gabriel Rufián, sends a clear message to Pedro Sánchez after he cooled the reform of the crime of sedition under the argument that there is not a sufficient majority. “They also said it with the motion of censure. Whoever knows how to count knows that it is false ”, he has pointed out in the corridors of Congress.

“We have always said that it is good news to democratize the Criminal Code and that it be the most comparable to what is happening in Europe,” said the Republican spokesman, who did not want to answer about the turn of the ERC, which proposed the disappearance of crime of sedition and amnesty. “The question is very clever but it would be counterproductive to answer it,” he pointed out.

What he has not wanted is to set deadlines for the proposal to reform the Penal Code to be ready. “Time is loaded by the devil,” Rufián replied. In any case, the commitment reached by the Government and the Generalitat at the last dialogue table was to propose legal reforms for “dejudicialization” before the end of the year.

the topics of the day

Hello! Today the Congress celebrates the second day of the debate of the amendments to the totality of the Budgets. But before getting into it, we leave you with some topics from this Thursday’s edition of elDiario.es:

-The PSOE agrees with the PP that judges who enter politics cannot return to Justice until two years after leaving office: the agreement to renew the CGPJ will arrive “soon”, according to both parties. But before that, the negotiators have already agreed on measures to reform the judicial system that will facilitate the unblocking after four years with the expired mandate. Now, they have agreed that the judges who go into politics do not return to the Judiciary until two years have passed since their dismissal.

-The PP maintains the mayor of Marbella as a candidate despite the prosecution of her husband for drug trafficking: Ángeles Muñoz will be the candidate for mayor of Marbella for the 2023 elections. Her party has chosen to keep her, despite the alleged illegal business of her family, who have her stepson and her husband on the edge of the bench.

-Madrid, Andalusia, Catalonia and Murcia, at the bottom of spending per inhabitant on Health and Social Services: the communities have recovered spending on social policies that they had ten years ago. However, there are communities that follow a “very worrying” dynamic, according to the Association of Directors of Social Services; Among them is Madrid, which registers the lowest expenditure per inhabitant.

-The fall of number two of Borràs intensifies the internal war in Junts: the sector opposed to Laura Borràs has claimed an important piece after having lost the vote on remaining in the Government. This is her number two, Francesc Dalmases, whose future as a deputy is still up in the air.

-PODCAST | The internal battles of Vox: Juanlu Sánchez focuses today on the crisis that Vox is suffering. To do this, he speaks with the journalist who follows the far-right party for elDiario.es, Carmen Moraga, and with the head of the Politics section, Iñigo Aduriz.
