18 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Russian Duma, the Lower House of Parliament, has approved this Tuesday a bill that intensifies the sentences for the crimes of high treason and international terrorism and increases the sentences to life imprisonment.

The deputies have given the go-ahead to the measure, which also introduces criminal liability in case of contributing to decision-making by international organizations in which Russia does not participate, although it establishes a penalty of up to five years in prison in these cases.

The document was first presented in November 2022 and contains amendments to the Criminal Code, especially in cases where “anti-Russian” decisions are made, according to information from the TASS news agency.

The new legislation includes up to 20 years in prison for acts of terrorism and life imprisonment in the case of international terrorism. In addition, it intensifies the penalties in case of “sabotage”, especially against the country’s transport infrastructure.
