The carnival madness of Rio de Janeiro resumes from this February 17, with a wind of optimism after the end of the Covid restrictions and the change of government in Brazil.
The samba schools carry out their last rehearsals in order to win the competition that will be held at the Sambadrome.
“Contemplation of everything”
Reinaldo opens one of the sections of the Mangueira school. He has been parading for 38 years and describes what each of the approximately 3,000 people who participate in the Schools has to do. This year 27 of them will parade.
“It is the contemplation of everything, rhythm, knowing how to sing the samba, and joy. Each parade is a new emotion, ”she says.
This year it seems that the Carnival could not wait to be celebrated on its official date. For two weeks now, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the comparsas have multiplied with hundreds, thousands of people following musicians between costumes, colors, glitter and fantasy.
“We are not going to stop”
Isabel points out that in 2021 Carnival was not celebrated and in 2022 it was celebrated out of season, although many people repressed their desire to be still suspicious of the pandemic.
“The pandemic left everyone with that feeling saved, now we are taking it out and every day we will do it more and more and we are not going to stop,” he emphasizes.
The triumph of Lula da Silva has provoked in a sector of society a sensation of great relief that is noticeable in this shameless, irreverent and promiscuous Carnival. The rules of behavior change and the important thing is to have fun and be happy.
