The results of the second edition of the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA 2024) will be presented at ECLAC

Next Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the National Center for Artificial Intelligence of Chile (CENIA) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will present the results of the 2nd edition of the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA 2024), a study led by CENIA that on this occasion evaluates the situation of 19 countries in the region, measuring the level of preparation of each of them in relation to the adoption and development of artificial intelligence.

The event will present the main findings of ILIA and explore the three key dimensions of the Index: enabling factors; research, development and adoption; and governance.

The event will be attended by Chile’s Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Aisén Etcheverry; ECLAC’s Deputy Executive Secretary, Javier Medina; the Ambassador of the European Union in Chile, Claudia Gintersdorfer; and authorities from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean – CAF, and UNESCO. Other renowned specialists and actors in the artificial intelligence ecosystem in Latin America will also participate in discussion panels, talks, and exhibitions.

The event includes a talk by international expert Néstor Maslej, research director of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), creator of the “AI Index”, a global barometer that measures the pulse and progress of artificial intelligence.

Finally, three successful cases will be presented, led by Google, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, of practical applications of AI in different areas: the “Humboldt Cable”, which represented important advances in connectivity for Chile; “Plu”, a chatbot that offers AI tools for teachers and students, and the “Guacayama Project”, for monitoring, conservation and protection of the Amazon.
