The Republicans maintain that the resolution of the French Justice "does not annul" Ciotti's expulsion from the party

June 15 () –

The French conservative party The Republicans has rejected this Friday the resolution of the French Justice to suspend the expulsion of its leader, Eric Ciotti, from the party, alleging that it does not focus “on the substance” of the matter and that its effects are temporary.

“The decision adopted today by the Paris Judicial Court does not annul the exclusion of Mr. Ciotti,” the group said in a statement shared on its account on the social network X.

The conservatives have argued that the aforementioned resolution “refuses to rule on the merits of the matter and is limited to temporarily suspending its effects until the matter is judged on the merits, something that will occur next week.”

In this sense, the party has urged Justice to rule “on the merits as soon as possible” and have assured that “The Republicans will present independent candidates in the legislative elections of June 30 and July 7.”

“Mr. Ciotti’s obstinacy has no effect on political reality,” the note concludes.

This reaction comes after a Paris court this Friday ordered the suspension of the expulsion of Eric Ciotti from the Republican party, considering that it contradicts the statutes of the political formation itself, which has turned its back on its leader after This would open the door to an agreement with the extreme right ahead of the legislative elections.

A board of directors of Los Republicanos approved on Wednesday the expulsion of Ciotti, leader of the party since December 2022, and this Friday it ratified its decision. However, Ciotti has filed an appeal before the Court considering that the statutes of the conservative party were being violated.

Ciotti has warned of alleged “maneuvers” of the majority loyal to the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, with “former friends” of the Republicans who disagree with the political line set by the leader and who proposes an alliance with the far-right National Rally for the legislative elections at the end of the month.

The internal chaos is absolute, to the point that the internal debate of who has the right to control the party headquarters is now even on the table when there are just over two weeks left for the first round of the elections that will mark the future distribution of seats in the National Assembly.
