Remakes and remasters have taken the video game industry by storm in recent years. Some titles were a success, others passed without pain or glory, and others were a failure. The latter was what happened with a project that attracted attention because it brought back a survival horror classichowever it did not perform well in the market.
The remake of Alone in the Dark did not meet Embracer’s sales expectations
During Embracer’s recent financial report, the European company revealed that a couple of releases impacted its finances negatively and one of them was the remake of Alone in the Dark, developed by Pieces Interactive and published by THQ Nordic. According to the company, this horror title received good reviews from fans, divided opinions in specialized media, but in the end it did not have good sales so its commercial performance was below expectations.
Unfortunately, this adverse result at the market level calls into question the plans around Alone in the Dark Well, the remake was considered the reboot of the franchise with upcoming releases in mind. However, it is a fact that its debut did not have the desired resonance and although it is a recognized IP, although not so successful, it simply did not hook the players or attract a new audience.
Alone in the Dark In its original version it debuted in 1992. It was designed by Frédérick Raynal as part of Infogrames and also published by that company. Its horror proposal with 3D elements, puzzle solving and inspiration from the works of HP Lovecraft, Dario Argento and George Romero made it a cult game and one of the fathers of Survival Horror in video games.
