The PSOE urges to renew the Judiciary while the PP asks for more time

The final departure of Didier Reynders from the European Commission has revealed the two speeds with which PSOE and PP approach the negotiations to unblock the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), in an interim situation since 2018 due to the rejection of the popular to reach an agreement. The role of Commissioner for Justice has been taken on by Vice President Věra Jourová. The community Executive has shown itself “available” to continue mediating in the “structured dialogue” between the parties. And while the socialists urge to close the agreement now, in the PP they put on the brakes and ask for “more negotiation”, while the Judiciary is in trouble.

The move to the commissioner's side to opt to lead the Council of Europe was something that was taken for granted when Alberto Núñez Feijóo proposed to Pedro Sánchez his mediation to try to unblock the CGPJ, which is on its way to six years of expired mandate. The President of the Government immediately accepted, and the Commission proposed a period of two months, in principle non-extendable.
