The Paris Prosecutor’s Office has demanded a conviction against the leader of the National Rally (AN), Marine Le Pen, for whom they are asking for five years in prison and disqualification from public office for crimes of embezzlement of European Union funds, accusations that far-right politician has denied during the judicial process.
For the French Prosecutor’s Office, the situation is such that the provisional execution of the disqualification is necessary, so if the Justice gives its approval, Le Pen would be incapable of holding office and could see her presidential aspirations frustrated, according to information collected by the network. Likewise, the Public Ministry has requested a sentence of five years in prison, including two years of suspension of the sentence, as well as a fine of 300,000 euros for Le Pen who has always defended her innocence and who during this same day has denounced that The judicial process has been “more than unstable.”
Le Pen and 30 other AN members are being tried in a case of alleged false parliamentary assistants with whom they have embezzled funds worth at least three million euros from the European Union. Specifically, Le Pen is accused of paying three assistants who work on behalf of the party and with EU funds.
