The authorities of the Donetsk People’s Republic have announced this Friday that the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut has been placed in the “area of responsibility” of the town of Shakhtiorsk, one of the administrative centers of the pro-Russian authorities in this area of the country.
The pro-Russian governor of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, has included this decision in a decree published during the day, which has automatically entered into force, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
The town has been the scene of confrontations since mid-2022 due to its important geostrategic value. Russian forces have claimed this week to have gained full control of Bakhmut, though Ukraine insists it still controls certain sectors.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree in September for the annexation of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, all of which were partially occupied as part of the invasion unleashed in February 2022 by order of the Russian president.
