The Prime Minister of France affirms that she will resort to approving the Budgets by fast track if there is no agreement

Oct. 17 () –

The Prime Minister of France, Elisabeth Borne, stated this Sunday in an interview on the TF1 channel that she will use the fast track to approve the 2023 Budgets, in the event that she does not reach an agreement with the opposition.

“Without a doubt we will have to resort to (article) 49.3. However, it will not be tomorrow,” declared the prime minister on the TF1 evening news, referring to the words of Jean-Luc Mélenchon who pointed to this Monday.

Borne, deprived of an absolute majority in the General Assembly, has recognized that the Government “probably” would have to use this tool. However, she has indicated that the negotiations will not cease, because she wants there to be a debate.

“Many deputies have warned us that they are not going to vote on the budget. But there are interesting debates. Some will vote on certain amendments but not on the article,” he explained.

In this way, the head of the Government has clarified that on Monday there will be a negotiation with the presidents of the parliamentary groups to see which amendments will be included in the final text and which will not.

Mélenchon stated hours before that the prime minister would announce that “49.3 would apply on Monday or perhaps Tuesday, but more likely on Monday.” “They do not want the session to be resumed and for the parliamentarians to vote on the amendments related to the wealth tax,” justified the leader of the France Insumisa, according to the newspaper ‘Le Parisien’.

In the event that the prime minister resorts to the aforementioned article, the measure would entail the immediate suspension of the discussion of the bill in the General Assembly. The text would be approved without being put to a vote, unless a motion of censure is presented within 24 hours.

At that point, if the motion went ahead, the courts would be dissolved.
