“The Price of Fame,” the work by Gerardo Quiroz that questions the harm caused by rumors

Gerardo Quiroz

Gerardo Quiroz arrives at the Teatro Centenario Coyoacán with his new work “The price of fame”this romantic comedy exposes the lives of two soap opera stars: Cecilia and Gabriel, played by Cecilia Galliano and Gabriel Sotowho use all their talent to make the public laugh out loud and make them question how much damage rumors can do, and being famous is not free, there is a high price that must be paid.

At celebrity.land we had the opportunity to interview the producer Gerardo Quirozwho told us about how he was inspired to produce this new play and how you should take responsibility for what you present to the public.

Gerardo He revealed that the idea came from a long-standing analysis of the image and perception that television consumers have of famous celebrities. He spent many years thinking about what to do to expose this situation on stage, especially with people who are easy prey for the press and scandals, like the protagonists of soap operas.

“You can be famous but not for something exactly good, but rather the opposite, we have ‘The House of the Famous’ as an example.”

He also tried to create empathy with the public so that they would understand that they are victims of their own fame, not only do they enjoy it, but they also suffer because scandals are invented against them and they have no privacy. The producer assured that there is a very positive message in this work.

This work is also written from the producer’s own experience, as he confessed that there is a particular moment where public figures become victims. “Because even though they try to keep their life low-profile, the cameras can expose you because what is private is not bad, it is just private and this generates morbid curiosity in people. Sadly, in Mexico, morbid curiosity causes sales. So the more the public knows about how a famous person lives, the more empathetic they will be.”

The producer gave us a review of his childhood, remembering that people are what our experiences have left us for better or worse because everything we think or do has to do with what we have lived and he is no exception because much of what he has done is a representation of his family, his parents, his children and this, in his words, “makes it more natural and credible because they are anecdotes from the soul, heart and mind.”

Is the future of television a curiosity among the public?

“I want there to be more responsibility. Money has taken on a brutal role in society to the point that anyone sells out. People even change parties for money. Where are your values? So as a producer, you know that you have a social responsibility and the company that hires you also has to look for positive content and that doesn’t mean that it should be boring.”

WHAT IS “THE PRICE OF FAME” ABOUT?
