Sep. 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The journalist and president of the Hong Kong Journalists Association, Ronson Chan, has been arrested by the Police this Wednesday for contempt of authority and for causing disorder in a public place while carrying out his duties.
Reporters Without Borders has demanded his “immediate” release from the Hong Kong authorities on his official Twitter profile, shortly after learning of the arrest of the journalist, who is a former editor of the defunct news portal Stand News.
Chan, 41, and his companion, a 42-year-old man, were near MacPherson Stadium when they were questioned by the police, who asked for their identification, according to the ‘South China Morning Post’.
The reporter, who was in the area writing an article on residential real estate and having an interview with members of the Long Ping Estate owners’ committee, refused to identify himself, while his companion did.
Upon his refusal, the Hong Kong police arrested Chan on two charges: obstructing police officers and disorderly conduct in a public place. The journalist was later taken to the Mong Kok police station, as reported by the Hong Kong Free Press news portal.
