Dec. 30 () –
The president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, has appointed this Friday the Spanish Leticia Zuleta de Reales Ansaldo as the new head of her cabinet as of January 1, as reported on social networks by her spokesperson, Juri Laas.
Zuleta will replace Alessandro Chiocchetti, a 53-year-old Italian, who from January will occupy the General Secretariat of the European institution after a controversial vote in September in which he had the support of conservatives and liberals.
The controversy surrounding the process by which Chiocchetti was appointed as general secretary caused Metsola herself to come forward to defend that the procedure was “the most open in the history of the institution.”
Chiocchetti, former adviser to Silvio Berlusconi and Antonio Tajani, will take over in January from Klaus Welle, a German Christian Democrat who will leave his post after more than a decade at the head of the Eurochamber officials.
