MADRID 7 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, apologized again this Thursday for the behavior of his wife, Kim Keon Hee, who was previously involved in a controversy for having accepted a bag valued at around 2,000 euros despite existing prohibitions.
Yoon also bowed in apology during a televised speech to mark the start of the second half of his term. Thus, he has provided an outline of his future political projects and has stressed that “the role of the president is not to make excuses.”
“All of this is due to my own flaws and lack of virtue,” said Yoon, who insisted that it was a “sincere apology.” In this sense, he has recognized that despite working “tirelessly” on behalf of the people during the last two and a half years, “deficiencies” have occurred.
“The initiatives that I launched for the well-being of the people and the future of South Korea may have caused discomfort, and the issues surrounding those close to me have also caused concern in public opinion,” he stated in relation to the first lady. which, as he pointed out, “could have behaved with more caution”. “The fact that it has caused concern in public opinion is an unquestionable mistake,” he added.
His wife has been at the center of other issues, such as alleged stock manipulation and alleged involvement in matters related to the South Korean government, according to information from the Yonhap news agency.
However, Yoon has arranged the creation of an office dedicated to managing and supporting the work of the first lady, who will “refrain from participating in public activities unless her presence is necessary in accordance with protocol and national interests.”
