( Spanish) — The President of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, spent Tuesday night under medical observation in a hospital after suffering a slight dizziness that required the attention of his personal doctor, the Presidency reported this Wednesday.
In a statement, it was detailed that Cortizo’s family doctor recommended that he be evaluated by his cardiologist at a health center, where “a medical team considered it prudent to keep the president under observation overnight.”
“President Cortizo Cohen is stable, and it is expected that, at noon today, Wednesday, he will resume work on his usual agenda,” said the Presidency, after taking tests that “provided satisfactory results.”
Almost a year ago, on June 20, 2022, President Cortizo announced in a message to the country that after routine medical examinations, a bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, he was diagnosed with intermediate-risk myelodysplastic syndrome, which, according to cancer.org, is a type of cancer. Since that announcement, the president has received treatment.
On May 25, after a medical evaluation carried out by specialists in Houston, Texas, the Government reported that “President Cortizo Cohen’s state of health is satisfactory.”
