The president of Iraq makes his first visit to Iran to organize water management

29 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid arrived in Iran this Saturday on his first visit since he took office to discuss the management of water resources between the two countries amid water shortages affecting several Iraqi regions, partly by the water management model in Iran.

It should be remembered that Iraqi environmental experts accuse the Islamic Republic of artificially diverting various tributaries of the rivers that end up crossing Iraq, which has caused very serious shortage problems, especially in the south of the country.

Rashid heads a high-level delegation that includes the Foreign, Water and Electricity Ministers and the National Security Adviser, also to discuss boosting trade relations between Baghdad and Tehran, and climate change.

“The visit takes place in response to an official invitation from the Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi,” the Iraqi government has announced in a statement collected by the official Iraqi news agency, INA.
