July 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, has appointed this Monday the new Minister of Communication of the country, Budi Arie Setiadi, replacing the former minister Johnny Plate, dismissed and arrested for allegedly being immersed in a bribery scheme and causing damage to the State.
Setiadi, who had held the post of Deputy Minister of Peoples, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration, is one of Widodo’s closest allies, according to what The Jakarta Post has published.
For his part, Plate is accused of causing serious damage to the State, valued at about 500 million dollars (about 461 million euros), as reported by the Antara news agency.
The country’s authorities stressed at the time that the actions of the Prosecutor’s Office were not related to “any political reason” and asserted that the president “will not be able to intervene if a senior government official violates the law.”
