July 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The transitional president of Guinea, Lieutenant Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, has appointed this Saturday by decree the current Minister of Commerce, Industry and SMEs, Bernard Goumou, as interim prime minister.
Goumou has been appointed interim prime minister this Saturday, through a decree read on national television, according to local media reports.
The decree added that Goumou will occupy this position simultaneously with his functions in the Trade portfolio, “due to the demands of the service”, and will last during the period of absence of the current Prime Minister, Mohamed Béavogui, until his return.
In this way, from today the interim prime minister will temporarily replace Béavogui, who is traveling in Rome, Italy.
Béavogui would have left the country for “personal reasons”, according to sources contacted by the Guineematin.com portal.
In turn, the newspaper ‘Guinée News’ has reported that certain sources indicate that it is a private trip, while other sources specify that the reason for the trip is health reasons.
Local media have indicated that there are doubts among Guineans about the nature of the trip and, therefore, Goumou’s appointment.
For his part, the interim prime minister has officially announced his position and thanked the interim president and coup leader for choosing him “to carry out this great mission.”
“Obviously, ensuring the interim of a man of the stature of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Beavogui is an arduous task, given the greatness of the man, his charisma and the way in which he has held the reins of the prime minister since his appointment”, has declared in a statement collected by ‘Guinée News’.
