The PP seeks support in Congress so that Renfe recovers compensation for AVE delays

The company removed compensation for delays of 15 and 30 minutes and they are only granted when the train arrives more than an hour late

Oct. 6 () –

The PP will put to a vote next week in the Plenary of Congress an initiative demanding that Renfe recover compensation for delays of 15 and 30 minutes on the AVE, compensations that were suppressed on July 1 to limit them only to delays of at least 60 minutes.

Through a non-legal proposal that will be debated on Tuesday, according to the Plenary agenda collected by Europa Press, the ‘popular’ will ask the Government to “immediately” reverse Renfe’s current commitments to punctuality and refunds, reestablishing the existing ones. before July 1, as they consider that they have meant a worsening for users of public railway services.

Specifically, Renfe modified the conditions of its punctuality commitment and its refund policy in most of its railway services, establishing that for a delay equal to or greater than 60 minutes, 50% of the ticket will be returned and if the delay exceeds 90 minutes, the refund is 100% of the ticket amount.

“The damage to users of railway services is evident,” denounces the PP in the proposal to which Europa Press has accessed, where they recall that consumer organizations such as the Federation of Consumers and Users CECU or Facua-Consumers in Action have denounced the change in policy on punctuality.

Facua has described Renfe’s new policy as “unacceptable” and points out that this update “represents a significant reduction in the rights of users in the event of tardiness or significant delays that they may suffer in their trips.” For its part, the Consumer Federation has indicated that Renfe’s compensation update “implies a reduction in its punctuality commitments, which is detrimental to quality service.”

IMPROVE COMPETITION OF RAILWAY SERVICES

With this panorama, the PP demands that the Government recover the previous policy and also adopt all the necessary measures to improve the public railway services under its jurisdiction, acting on both the infrastructure and the trains, in order to drastically reduce the numerous incidents that they are being produced.

Likewise, the Popular Group “immediately” demands that the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, begin to manage in a “real and effective” manner the public railway services and infrastructure under his jurisdiction for the benefit of users, which, says the PP, suffer “permanent railway chaos due to the severity of the incidents and the minister’s disposition.”
