The Palestinian Presidency has accused Israel of “crossing all the red lines” in its operation against Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip, marked by the crossing of bombardments between both sides, which for now and according to the enclave’s Ministry of Health has been already settled with 33 dead and 147 wounded.
“Israel has not ceased in its policy of murders and crimes against the Palestinian people,” denounced the presidential spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeina, who also blamed the United States for “keeping a deafening silence in the face of these crimes.”
The latest balance of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, under the control of the Islamist Hamas movement, details that among the deceased are six children and three women.
In the last few hours, the Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, has called “the United States, the international community and our Arab brothers” to put pressure on the “Israeli occupation authorities”. with the aim of stopping this new “aggression against the Palestinian people”.
“We also call on international and humanitarian institutions to intervene quickly to open the crossings with the Gaza Strip and transfer the wounded to be treated,” he added in a message posted on his Twitter account.
For his part, the Israeli National Security adviser, Tzachi Hanegbi, has warned that the Army will only cease its campaign when Islamic Jihad stops its attacks against Israel, before expressing serious doubts about Egypt’s ability to mediate in the conflict.
“Egypt talks with Hamas, because they are partners, but I don’t know how their relations with Islamic Jihad are, which is the armed wing of Iran in Gaza,” he explained in comments collected by the newspaper ‘Haaretz’.
The adviser has estimated that Islamic Jihad has fired, since the start of hostilities four days ago, approximately a thousand rockets at Israel and that it still has 5,000 projectiles at its disposal — “a small number compared to Hamas, which has a arsenal four times larger”, he added — although he noted that the Israeli air defense system, Iron Dome, has shot down nine out of ten rockets that have managed to cross the border.
