The Pakistan Police have declared seven days of restrictions in the state of Punjab before new protests begin this Friday to demand the immediate release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the country’s great opposition figure.
Thousands of supporters of Jan’s party, the Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI), began marching through several towns in the province to demand the release of “political prisoner 804” in reference to the former president, convicted of corruption in what Jan has described as a huge conspiracy orchestrated by the brother of the current prime minister and sworn enemy, Nawaz Sharif, the Army and even the United States.
Without going any further, this Friday the PTI has demanded that retired general Qamar Javed Bajwa, chief of the General Staff during the no-confidence motion that ended up expelling Jan from power in April 2022, be subject to a court martial for “involving the Pakistan Army in the arena of politics” in a “conspiracy against democracy.
“The general is a national criminal in all aspects who has ended up risking the Army, the country, the Constitution and democracy for his personal interest,” the party added in a message published on its X social network account.
In this situation, the Punjab state government has activated the so-called “section 144”, a common mechanism when it comes to PTI protests, and which in general terms restricts meetings, sit-ins, demonstrations, protests or any type of similar activities. , according to the order collected by the news portal The News.
