The Pakistani Interior Minister threatens to outlaw the PTI "if he does not change his attitude"

May 13. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Pakistan’s Home Minister Rana Sanaullah has threatened to outlaw the country’s main opposition formation, former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Movement for Justice in Pakistan (Pakistan Tehreek and Inshaf or PTI), if it persists in disturb social peace.

The Pakistani Government and Police have pointed to PTI sympathizers as responsible for the riots this week in the country coinciding with the arrest of Jan for a corruption case. They accuse Jan’s supporters of burning down the historic Jinnah House — once purchased by the country’s founder — and carrying out shootings in Islamabad on Friday, during the former prime minister’s declaration of provisional release.

The PTI has denied any responsibility in both incidents.

“It is important to have a stance against armed groups. There is no other option than to impose a ban on this party [PTI]”, the minister declared at a press conference from Islamabad, before moderating the tone: “We will adopt extreme measures if the opposition does not change its attitude”, according to statements collected by the Dawn newspaper.
