The Ombudsman initiates actions to find out if the 'crypto' event has the necessary permits

Aug. 26 () –

The Ombudsman has initiated proceedings before the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) and before the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Interior of the Community of Madrid to find out if the Mundocrypto Metaverse Day event, which will take place this Saturday at the Wizink Center (Madrid), has the necessary permits for its celebration.

The institution has initiated these actions after admitting a complaint from an association that has raised its concern about the phenomenon, “extended among minors and very young adults.”

The Ombudsman has addressed the Ministry, as the authorizing administration of the event, and the CNMV, as the body with competence in financial product transactions, to report on the matter.

In the event that the event does not have the necessary permits for its celebration, the Ombudsman requires the aforementioned authorities to adopt the appropriate measures.

The event on cryptocurrencies has been in the spotlight this week after the CNMV recalled that the organizing company, MundoCrypto, “does not have any type of license to advise on financial instruments or intermediate investment operations on financial instruments.”

In addition, among the sponsors of the meeting, there are several entities warned by the CNMV such as Huobi, Bitget or Bybit, considered as unregistered entities or ‘financial beach bars’.

On his side, the CEO of MundoCrypto defended not needing any license from the CNMV, since the company is not a financial institution and does not sell or advise on financial instruments, but is dedicated to education in the digital sector.
