June 1 () –

The number of people in Spain with a high net worth (HNWI, for its acronym in English) fell by 3.7% in 2022, from 246,500 people in 2021 to 237,400 in 2022, according to the Capgemini world wealth report carried out in the main wealth markets of North America, Latin America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

The report reveals that the number of rich people in the world fell by 3.3% in 2022, to 21.7 million, while the value of their wealth fell by 3.6%, to $83 trillion. .

In this way, the world population with high net worth registered in 2022 the largest decrease in size and wealth for more than a decade due, according to Capgemni, to geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainty.

In the case of Spain, the value of wealth decreased by 4.5%, going from a wealth of 719.7 billion dollars in 2021 to 687.2 billion dollars in 2022.

Despite reducing its number of rich and the volume of its wealth, Spain maintained the same position as in 2021 in a ranking made up of 25 markets, ranked number 15.

The main factors driving the general decline in wealth in 2022 have been declining market capitalization, eurozone inflation and the housing plummet, according to Capgemini.

Thus, according to this report, all the countries of Western Europe have seen their wealth diminish, one of the worst figures being that of Spain (-4.5%). The Nordic countries suffered the greatest weakening: Sweden (-7.1%), Denmark (-7.5%) and Finland (-8.3%).

By geographical area, North America registered the largest decline in wealth (-7.4%), followed by Europe (-3.2%) and Asia-Pacific (-2.7%). By contrast, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East were more resilient and experienced financial growth in 2022 thanks to strong performance from the oil and gas sectors, Capgemini notes.

The World Wealth Report 2023 covers 71 markets, accounting for more than 98% of global gross national income and 99% of global market capitalization.
