At least eight alleged members of the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah died this Monday in a new bombing blamed on the Israeli Army against a position of the group in the Syrian province of Homs (center), as reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. .
The organization, based in London and an informant in the country, has indicated that the objective has been a Hezbollah “headquarters” near a school in Al Qusair, southwest of Homs and near the border between Syria and Lebanon, without the Syrian authorities or the group have commented on the matter.
Despite this, Hezbollah has announced the death of at least five of its members throughout the day, without giving details about these deaths, according to the Lebanese state news agency NNA.
Likewise, the Observatory has highlighted that “violent explosions” have been recorded in the area, such as the one recorded at a gas station near the city of Homs, and has added that there are “pro-Iranian militias” in this area. “The area is under the control of Hezbollah,” he highlighted, before adding that the attack resulted in several injuries, so it is not ruled out that the death toll will increase in the coming hours.
So far in 2024, the Observatory has recorded 40 Israeli attacks against Syrian territory, causing the death of 139 people, including twelve civilians, 21 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, 25 Hezbollah militiamen, 31 militia fighters pro-Iranian Syrians and 40 Syrian Army soldiers.
The Israeli authorities, who have not commented on this new bombing, recognize attacks in Syria arguing that they act to prevent the establishment of Iranian bases and the sending of weapons to Hezbollah by Tehran, which supports the Syrian president, Bashar al Assad. , within the framework of the war that broke out in 2011 after the violent repression of pro-democratic demonstrations within the framework of the ‘Arab Spring’.
