When the DDR5 try to make your way like most widespread memory among home PCsthe JEDEC already have in mind specifications of the next DDR6. Although we know that, obviously, this memory will reach the market, specifications have not yet been established for this future memory format. But some slides posted on X/Twitter by Darkmont have given know what plans the JEDEC has for DDR6establishing a speed that will reach 17.6 Gbps.
In the documents it can be seen that the DDR6 memory will have speeds from 8.8 Gbps to 17.6 Gbps and that possibly extends up to 21 Gbps. Figures have also been offered for the next LPDDR6to 24 bitand that will begin in the 10.667Gbps and will reach the 14.4Gbps with a bandwidth of 28.5 GB/s to 38.4 GB/s. Some speeds that They far surpass the current DDR5 and LPDDR5(x). The slides also show LPDDR6 modules with CAMM2 formata proposal that may come with this next generation to offer solutions that require much less thickness for installation. This format would be ideal to build lighter and thinner laptops.
It is expected that the JEDEC can announce the initial specifications, such as a first draftduring this same 2024 and that complete in 2025. At the moment, DDR6 and LPDDR6 memory does not have a release datebut the first step to continue its development is offer standards to fulfill.
