MADRID 24 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Government of Israel will suspend all contact between its agencies and the newspaper ‘Haaretz’, one of the most read in the country, due to the media’s criticism of the future of the Gaza war and the Israeli Executive, starting with the country’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, according to the media’s management.
The deputy chief director, Noa Landau, has announced the suspension on her X social network account and accused Netanyahu of having signed his signature to certify the sanction. The Israeli Government has not yet commented on the matter.
“Today the Netanyahu Government approved a resolution to sanction ‘Haaretz’, suspending any state advertising, state-funded subscriptions or any other ‘connection’ with the newspaper. We will not be deterred,” Landau said before sending a warning message to colleagues in other media.
“To all my colleagues who today remain silent in the face of the illegal sanctions that have just been imposed on us: Do not be surprised when your day comes,” he proclaimed.
The incident that ended up dissolving the relationship with the Government – ‘Haaretz’ will not receive institutional advertising either – was the speech given by its owner, businessman Amos Schocken, last month in London, where he accused the Executive of “imposing a cruel regime of segregation against the Palestinian community” during the Gaza war.
The media outlet had actually been in the crosshairs of Information Minister Schlomo Karhi for some time, who had called for a boycott of the media outlet, accusing it of being “defeatist” and of spreading “false propaganda.”
