The New York Police investigates an attack on the headquarters of Turkish diplomacy in the city

May 22. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The New York Police launched an investigation on Monday into the attack on the Turkish House, a building in the US city where Turkey locates its consulate and diplomatic representation to the United Nations.

According to preliminary information, during the early hours of the morning, an unknown person broke the exterior windows on the ground floor of the building with an iron lever, according to the Turkish news agency Anatolia.

The Turkish consul general in New York, Reyhan Ozgur, has confirmed the event, although he has celebrated that only material damage has occurred and no employee has been injured.

This incident occurs in view of the second round of the presidential elections in Turkey. However, Ozgur has assured that the event will not alter the voting process for those Turks residing in New York.

“The polls have opened this Monday at 8:00 (local time) as usual and our citizens continue to cast their votes,” said the Turkish Consul General in New York.
