Once again, YouTuber Austin Evans has been in charge of discovering the secrets of the new PS5 revision (digital edition). The first thing that stands out about the CFI-1200 model is its weight reduction, 3.3 kg compared to 3.5 kg and 3.8 kg for the CFI-1100 and CFI-1000 series, respectively. This thinning is explained by several reasons, including a new simplification of the heat sink and a redesign of the motherboard, which is also smaller. In the capture that you have at the end of the news you can see at a glance the difference between the dissipation system and the plate of the three models.
The PS5 CFI-1200 heat sink system is smaller, but also adds a new heat pipe (heat pipe).
The new PS5 motherboard design also affects the CMOS battery, which is now fully hidden under the heatsink. Before, this battery, responsible for supplying a little power to the board when the device is turned off, could be seen with the naked eye and replacing it was simple. This action now forces a complete dismount of the console. On the other hand, the SSD slot no longer shows a printed circuit and instead there is a metal plate. In Evans’ opinion, this change should improve heat dissipation.
Most users who can buy a PlayStation 5 will probably not notice the model, but these changes in the design of the console also imply benefits for the pocket thanks to a reduction in consumption. In a gaming session, the CFI-1200 model requires 201 W, which is between 20 and 30 watts less than the CFI-1000 model (218 W) and the CFI-1100 model (229 W). At the same time, the new PS5 model manages to keep the noise level and the temperature of the air it expels practically unchanged.
In Evans’ opinion, the new PS5 model is better than the previous two. The console is lighter, consumes less power and its cooling system is just as efficient. In addition, the youtuber is inclined to think that manufacturing the CFI-1200 model is cheaper for Sony, a company that two weeks ago decided raise the price of the console by 50 euros. Currently PS5 is sold for 549.99 euros, while the digital edition costs 449.99 euros.
